The conference was organized by the Second World War Research Group to mark the 80th anniversary of the surrender of the Axis powers and the end of the Second World War. The event gathered historians worldwide to reassess and deepen our understanding of the war's lasting impact.

In his keynote, Professor Garon emphasized the transnational nature of wartime civilian targeting and the shaping of “home fronts.” His lecture applied global history approach as an important methodology in total war studies.
